Training Opportunities

Green Professionals™ are always on the look out for valuable training opportunities for our members. We partner with organisations that have similar values to ourselves andwhere possible secure special discounts for our members. At this time we have identified two groups, Aspin Learning and Ceres Environment Park, who are offering training we believe is complimentary to the pursuits of our members.

In the future we will be endeavoring to provide training opportunities in the areas of Residential Mandatory reporting, Commercial Environmental Audits for small and medium sized enterprises (SME's) and Carbon Accounting.

Crisis and opportunity

As we’re all aware, there has been a lot of negative publicity related to the roll-out of the Green Loans program and subsequent changes with the administration of the scheme (see the relevant post updates).

It would be very easy for us to thrust our hands in the air and say, ‘we’re all doomed,’ but it doesn’t necessarily need to turn out that way. I strongly believe the skills we’ve gained will continue to be in demand.

Why? Firstly, prices (gas, electricity, water) are on the increase. Homeowners want to know what they can do as rising prices begin to eat into the household budget. Irrespective of what the Government is doing, there is a genuine business niche to help identify real cost savings.

People still need to be encouraged to act responsibly and empowered to make sustainable choices in the home because it reduces waste and helps stabilise bills. Household sustainability assessors provide a service with value and this presents a genuine user-pays opportunity.

Further Information on Green Loans Program Changes

The following information was sourced from the Green Loans website outlining more details about the Green Loan Program changes.

Important notice - program changes

On 19 February 2010, the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the
Arts announced changes to the popular Green Loans Program. These
changes ensure the program can meet the strong demand for free home
sustainability assessments and aims to help improve the quality of
assessments being delivered under the program.

New applications to become contracted assessors are no longer being
received by the department. Please do not send any applications to the
department. If they are sent they will be returned to sender. Contracts
delivered by hand will not be accepted.

Significant Changes to the Green Loans Program

The following is an excerpt from a statement released by Peter Garrett's Office.

The Government will help over an additional 600,000 Australian households tackle climate change through a re-designed and extended Green Loans program.

That is on top of the 360,000 assessments already available under the program, of which more than 270,000 have already been booked nationwide.

Botched Insulation

Insulation helps reduce the amount of heat flowing through the building envelope. The use of insulation in the ceiling and walls is one of the most effective ways of reducing heating and cooling loads.

In addition to improving comfort levels in the home, insulation will have a substantial impact of stabilising electricity and gas bills in the face of rising utility prices. The added bonus is that it helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This is why the Federal Government has been fostering the installation of insulation – because it’s effective.

The Water Cycle

We need to view water coursing through and around our homes as a valuable resource worth conserving.

The Home

We think of our homes mostly in terms of memory and emotion – a magnificent meal prepared in the kitchen, a child’s first steps and consequent faceplant on the livingroom floor, beers with mates out on the back verandah.

Green Start Program To Help Vulnerable Australians

Federal Envioronment Minister Peter Garrett yesterday announced a Federal Government initiative called Green Start. The main purpose behind this new program is to help low income and disadvantaged Australian Households overcome any any additional burden arising as a consequence of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).
